A Winter's Walk (Setsuka)

The cold air bit at her cheeks and little puffs drifted from her mouth every time she breathed. But Mika noticed very little of it, so entranced was she by the beauty around her. She'd never seen the school grounds in the Winter, so all of it was new to her. A long time ago, not long after she had first gotten here, Miyuki had told her the most beautiful place in the school during the wintewr months was the Gardens, and Mika had to take her word for that, having lived most of her life in Southern California. As she looked around now, she could only curse past Mika for the flippant comments she had made to Miyuki about the place.
Everything was frozen, like crystal. The trees and ground were covered in a light layer of snow that gave everything a pristine white sheen, The whole scene felt like they were on a different planet, a beautiful planet of ice and snow. It looked nothing like she had seen during the fall when she'd first gotten here! What few evergreen trees the Gardens had here were coated with snow that burdened the boughs and caused then to hang low. The trees that had dropped the carper of golden leaves were stripped bare. What remained reminded Mika faintly of spindly bones. She gave a little shiver, if anything took away from the picture it were those trees...No matter! She was determined to make this a good time for her and Setsuka!
Speaking of which, Mika looked happily next to her where Set-chan walked beside. She gave little wink and chuckle, and took off into the frsh snow off of the main path. The snow crunched under her feet that made Mika feel even more happy and content. Feeluing like a little kid she twirled around till dizziness forced her to stop. She turned and waved at Setsuka.
"Come on Set-chan! You can't enjoy it from the path!"

Setsuka decided before they had arrived that if the gardens were as Maika had told her, she would not conceal her amazement. And she was glad she didn't, for she would have had a very hard time to in the first place. Everything looked so fragile, and shimmered with some unspoken beauty. Even though it looked a little dangerous, the ice that hung from the branches of a tree were sharpened to the point and glinted brightly. The trees themselves also looked dead, but that only added to the beauty of it all, she found herself thinking much to her surprise. She had seen snow before, of course, but nothing they had there could compare to what was here. It was almost as if the abnormalty of everything had rubbed off on the growth of the gardens as the seasons changed.
Perhaps people could interpret the place differently. Some may think it's a place where all things die, others may think it's when all living things sleep. Or maybe none of those. She herself had no personal opinion on Winter, except that it was really beautiful.
She hardly noticed the fact that she had forgotten to put warm clothing on, as the cold didn't really bother her. She was in her own little world, and for once, she forgot about the past...and the future. Her attention was solely focused on the present, and that was how it should be.
Maika's words caught her attention, and she looked at the girl who seemed to be having so much fun. If anything, Setsuka wouldn't even dream of doing something like that, but this time, she felt as if all formalities didn't matter. All that mattered now was that she was still alive, and that she was surrounded by beauty, "I can see things you can't see if you don't stay on the path." she answered, chuckling a little.

At the chididng little comment Setsuka made, Mika pouted a little. It didn't last long though, Mika had always figured that Setsuka wouldn't be the kind of girl to goof off as much as she did. That was proven now, but even though she expected it, it was still a little dissapointing. Mika had this grand image of helping Setsuka enjoy herself to the fullest and just cutting loose, but maybe she just wasn't like that. Mika couldn't expect everyone to be like her, nd besides, she likely still had a lot on her mind.
"Meh! You're missing out Set-chan!"
That didn't mean that Set-chan's party-pooping had to ruin her fun! Mika spun around a few more times bfore she flopped to the snow on her back, listening with a sort of satisfaction to the soft crunch beneath her. This was just wonderful! Mika felt just wonderful! It had been such a long time since she had felt like this that it came out in torrents! Again it happened, but this time even Mika could feel a little of it. Her whole body seemed to warm and tingle despite the cold air and thre snow beneath her. She didn't care though! She just laughed and took it all in stride.
"Set-chaaaaan! Get your butt over here and help me up! Pleeeaase!"

What in the world was Maika doing? Setsuka thought to herself, though with no contempt seeped into her thoughts. A voice at the back of her mind, which for once, was not the sylph, answered her question.
Having fun.
So what was she doing, standing around looking so…she couldn’t find the word for it, but she knew that she shouldn’t just stand there looking so out of place while a friend was having fun, even if it wasn’t in her nature to frolic around, maybe she should try stepping outside her comfort zone…and decided against it.
Just watching the snow has it fell gently all around them, only then did Setsuka notice that it had started to snow. She blew a white puff off her nose and stood to watch as it fell from the sky, just enjoying the peace that encased her.
But with Maika around, there would hardly be any. Not that she minded though as the other suddenly stressed her nickname and asked to help her up. "If you knew you couldn't get up," she began turning herself to regard the girl on the snow with amusement, "Then why flop down there in the first place?" she grinned lightly before walking towards Maika in a steady pace. Stopping short just beside Maika, she tilted her head to the side, "Your backsides going to be wet."
Suddenly, a smile crossed her face and she held a hand out, "Here." she offered, wondering if the other expected her to bend down and help her up, or if she was supposed to just hold out a helping hand.

Mika lay there for a few moments, wondering idly if Setsuka was actually going to leave the path and help her. Finally! She couldn't help but giggle as a feeling of giddiness filled her. Set-chan walked over and stood looking downb at her with an amused look on her face. Mika just grinned back and gave the other girl a little wink. Why couldn't she just let loose? Mik couldn't help but wonder, even though a part of her knew the answer to that question, most of ehr still wanted Setsuka to feel the same kind of happiness she did. It was fleeting and innocent of all the real troubles the two of them would have to face, Mika knew this, but she'd always been good at enjoying the moment. She wanted Setsuka to feel the same as she did! Even as unrealisitic as it might be!
"Pffth! Cause I don't care! And besides, I want you to help me!"
Behind the amused face of Setsuka, Mika could see the snow had begun to drift from the sky again. Even with fresh snow, Setsuka still refused to be as happy! Ahhh!!! As frustrating as it might be, Mika only felt empowered by it, more dedicated then ever to make this girl happy! For a split second Mika could see a shimmer around Setsuka, but ignored it completely. She was beginning to lose herself again, but welcomed it this time. It was good! Around her, her energy focused on the girl in front of her, trying to change her. Make her happy, because it was a good feeling!
Caught in the moment, Mika looked at the outstretched hand and grinned wickedly. She snatched it and pulled hard, listening with satisfaction as the girl flopped onto the snow next to her. She giggled and then laughed right out!
"Ha! That's what you get for being such a grump Set-chan! Now stop and just have fun!"

"Wha - " she couldn't even complete the word as it rushed out of her mouth the minute Maika pulled her onto the snow. Great, now she was going to have wet clothes too but...she found she couldn't care any less. Sitting up abruptly, she glared playfully at the girl beside her. Even though the action was to be expected, she didn't really think more of it. "I am having fun." she snorted, "Just a different sort of fun from you." her fun including being peaceful, not shrieking the place down with wild laughter as Maika had done, "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if an avalanche started because of you." she grumbled, before she couldn't contain her amusement anymore.
Bursting out into a fit of soft chuckles, Setsuka felt light; lighter than she had ever been before. So this was what it felt like to let you're guard down...she could finally stop feeling as if someone was spying on her around every corner. She just let all of those doubts go, and she replaced it with the feeling of enjoyment. Maybe it was because of Maika's own cheerful face, and the emotion subject again, but Setsuka didn't mind where her sudden happiness came from. She was just grateful that it had actually come.
She realised that she was just about to...leave the world, without ever having known about such exhilaration and felt glad that she hadn't. Later on, she would have to thank Maika...for everything, even if it was just a friendly gesture. Grasping a handful of snow, she couldn't be bothered packing it into a snowball and just tossed it on Maika's face, "And that's what you get for dragging me down." she grinned impishly, an expression seen rarely, if never.

Mika snorted as some of the snow flew right up into her nose. Whaa! She hadn't expected that at all from Setsuka! Quiet calm collected Setsuka, had just tossed snow into her face! But instead of being even the slightest bit upset at the white fluff that was starting to run down into her shirt, Mika just laughed. This was wonderful! Evenw ith all the other comments Setsuka had made, she'd thrown snow and smiled! A sort of exhileration filled her and spread to each and every fingertip. By now Mika couldn't even feel the cold air or the snow, not even the snow that was soaking into her slothing! Her whole being was being lifted! She felt like she was riding ona cloud, and more then anything, she weanted to bring Setsuka with her! Mika squealed and brushed the snow from her face.
"Ahhh! That's better! But don't think you can get away with it!"
By now, she could fully see the shimmering of faint color around Setsuka. It was tinged with dark yellows and a lighter green, which Mika could instictivly feel were worry and peace, gently fighting each other. She could see her own too! Hers was swirling and changing with reds and oranges.B etween the two girls, a steady stream that was slowly filling the aura around Set-chan, subtly changing their colors. Hah! It was working! Mika was making Setsuka happy! With a wonderful feeling of success, Mika pushed it even harder. Perhaps even too much, but she had ceased caring by now.
Not to be outdone by her friend, Mika quickly snatched up a handful of snow from beside her and flung it at Setsuka. Her aim was a little bad and the ball exploded in her hair instead of the targeted face, but it still powdered her face well enough for Mika to burst out laughing again.
"Yesss! And the attack continues! prepare to defend yourself!"
Mika had grabbed another handful and was preparing to toss it.

She was half-expecting the sylph to come out and hiss it's disapproval, but nothing came. She was a little suspicious at first, but that was replaced by a feeling of carelessness, which she knew was bad, but it couldn't be helped. The air radiated happiness, and it was all Setsuka could do to keep her composure the best she could, holding onto that one shred of dignity.
Suddenly, a handful of snow burst in her hair, and she could feel the snow trickle down on her face and into her collar, soaking her shirt until she shifted, "Hey...!" she protested, and shook her head so that the snow flew out, though there were still some white bite still sticking in her hair. "On the contrary, Mika-chan," she stated rather casually, "You should prepare to defend yourself." the same impish grin never left her face and she flung some snow that was rapidly packed together before Maika could throw her own.
If anyone saw her now...they would have had to look twice; because this certainly wasn't her usual self. But now, she didn't care about reputations (not that she did in the first place) and ended up letting that little bit of dignity slip away. Oh well, she could regain it later. Shrugging to herself, she also pushed away the thought of no sylph interfering and swirled her hand in the air, a gust of wind blew some snow in Maika's direction, "If you can use your emotions," she said simply, "Then I can use the wind."
In a great flurry of snow, Setsuka had tackled Maika gently. Sitting on her stomach, though not putting her full weight on, she grabbed some of the white snow that littered the ground in lumps and started to sift it above her face and on her collar. "One for pulling me down," she sung, a mischeivous glint now entering her eyes, "Two for throwing snow..." she tried to think of a reason for number three, before shrugging once more and let the whole lump drop down and into Maika's hair. "Revenge exacted." she grinned triumphantly.

Mika squirmed about in Setsuka's grip, but was laughing the whole time. She'd expected the tackle the hole time, hoping only to catch Setsuka first! The wind control caught Mika completely off guard though, and for only a second was worried about it, before she let it slide like everything else. The next moment the swirling wind around them became little more then anopther part of the game they were playing. Just like the swirl of colors that were swiftly becoming similar between them, but Mika's still rushed ahead of Setsuka's, both in intensity and color, and Mika continued to focus her influence over Setsuka, trying to match them. Oh how she wanted her to feel exactly the same as she did! It would be wonderful!
"Gah! You beast! I'll......pfft! I'll get you yet! If you....just get off! Ah! You better hope I don't get out!"
As the air swirled around them and snow battered them both, Mika struggled till she freed a hand and quickly tossed snow back into Setsuka, who perched atop her. As Mika looked up into her face, she could see her smile was filled with a devious playful quality that she had never seen, nor had ever even imagined! But then aain, she had never imagine Setsuka tackling her and dropping snow into her face either! It made her feel even more wonderful! Mika wanted to shout her happiness to the world!
She struggled a little more before she freed her other hand and scooped up even more snow. Instead of just throwing it though, she pulled the bottom of Setsuk'a shirt out and quickly stuffed it into her shirt so the cold snow met bare skin. With a bit of an evil chuckle, she continued to try to escape.
"Aha! You didn't know about my secret weapon! Now realease me!"

"Ah!" she gasped as the cold hit her skin and nipped it until she squirmed. Maika was right; that was unexpected and she didn't know about it. But then again, she didn't expect to know everything, right? "Right, so that's one for you." she didn't let Maika go just yet, as she didn't know when the next opportunity to have her down like this would come, "But..." she paused, and scooped up some snow with one hand, while the other pulled Maika's shirt open a little by the collar, "I have the upperhand." she finished and dropped the snow down her shirt.
Oh, she knew it was mean. But it was a good idea in the end, as Maika had been the one to stuff snow up her shirt in the first place. So, who could blame her when she did the same, only the other way? Had anyone been passing right now, they would have wondered what on earth was going on, and she wondered what it would be like to be asked that.
Then realised that her mind didn't really care, it was nothing important anyway. But, she knew that no-one would come in the way of two friends having fun. At least, she knew that she wouldn't and she supposed no self-respecting person would either. Grasping hold of Maika's arm, she grinned once more, "Now, you have to use your other hand." she didn't grab hold of the other's free hand though. If she did, then what was she going to use to scoop up the snow to throw?
Setsuka started to laugh softly as the wind blew her hair and the snow wildly around and it mingled with the air around. It wasn't like her to laugh so openly, especially one that held no guarded sound in it's depths. This was really a day that would be imprinted in her mind.

Mika faintly felt the cool chill of the frozen snow against her bare skin, but paid it no notice. At the back of her mind she knew she ought to be freezing! She'd worn little winter clothing because she'd assumed her and Setsuka would have stayed in the cafe! What she felt was simply a warm tingling, and the weight of Setsuka on top of her. Setsuka was laughing like Mika was, like a young girl having fun! It filled her heart with joy, till she could hardly bare it. Mika laughed at the girl above her, and Setsuka just laughed back! Everything just felt...... right! And as they laughed, Mika watched as the air blew about and whipped Setsuka's hair around her face. As she looked, a dark red color began to flow around Setsuka, and then slowly flowed down the bridge that connected the two of them. A warm feeling, unlike the flippant one that filled her now, began to warm inside of her. A brief moment of worry flashed through her mind but was swiftly pushed aside
"Aha! But you take my weak arm and leave the strong one! You have made the fatal mistake of assuming that I am right-handed! Now you will feel my wrath!"
With a strength that was hidden by her small frame, Mika positioned her hand beneath and began to push, trying to tip the little tower the two of them had created over.

Setsuka mused at the girl below her and grinned, "Your wrath?" she chuckled, "Oh dear," she made her tone seem a little worried, "Best get off before you do any damage to me, ne?" she let go of the hand she had kept hostage and lifted herself off. The winds around them had died a little, but not by much. It was still gentle enough that she didn't have to shout to be heard, though she couldn't say the same for those who had really, really soft voices.
She didn't have to worry though...she knew as a fact that Maika was not one of those people. "There, you're free." she regarded the other, tilting her head once more ot the side, "Oh!" she exclaimed, as if she had suddenly realised something, "You're free!" she repeated, "Now you can bring upong me your revenge." her eyes glinted playfully, even if she did make her tone now seem childish, "But don't expect me to just stand quietly while you do."
Her cheeks were tinged red from the cold and snow was trickling down her back and made damp spots all around, but she took no notice of those details. Now wasn't the time to be fussy, and in any case, there was something called a washing machine.
Throwing her hands up in the air, bits of snow fell from her sleeves, and she didn't notice that either. She tilted her head to face the sky, that was still sending down snow like there was no tomorrow. Swiftly, she brought her arms back to her sides and Setsuka looked at Maika once more, breaking into a smile that was different from the others. Not an impish one, or a mischievous one...nor was it one of someone who was calm and collected.
For once, Setsuka looked at peace which was something she had not felt truly in a long time. And she owed it all to Maika.

Mika watched the other girl carefully, her mind filling with neat little ideas to get back at her! And still the deep red flowed from Setsuka to her, starting now to change the colors of ehr own aura. And still that warm sensation in her chest continued to grow even more. Mika took it all in stride, worried more whether or not her next action would be up to the challenge of Setsuka! Then she got off, and Mika felt strangely dissapointed that Setsuka chose to do so. It puzzled her only for a moment, then she knew what she would do! A wicked grin spread across her face. And even as Setsuka tilted her head back Mika had begun moving.
"Got you! NOW who is whose prisoner?"
She refered to the fact that she now kealt atop Setsuka in the exact same position she herself had been only a few moments ago. Mika had not however, taken as much precaution in being gentle as Setsuka had, instead replacing it with a need that was quickly building in her.
"I'm not giving you the chance to stuff snow up my shirt though! That was my trick and you ain't taking it!"
With a deftness that suprised even her, Mika had snagged Setsuka by both of her wrists and had pinned them to either side of her head. As she looked down at her prisoner, an odd feeling filled her, and her smile took on a more sinister look.
"Well....what are you going to do now Set-chan?"

Right, so now she was in a position in which she hardly dared to believe. How had the tables turned on her so quickly? She didn't know that it was in Maika's nature to do something like this...but that didn't matter. Instead she grinned and stared back forceably, "I believe I'm your prisoner." she stated casually, tilting her head to look at her now captured hands, as she rotated her wrists around, "Remember, I still have the wind..." she paused, as if the information was slowly seeping into her, "...but I suppose that would be cheating." had she been able to, she would have shrugged, but seeing as Maika had her in an unmovable grasp, she couldn't.
So, it was all Setsuka could do but stare defiantly back, "Now that you're hands are full, what can you do?" she challenged, a smug expression on her face, though it also held some teasing in it's depths, "I doubt you could do much..." she muttered before shifting her head and tried to toss Maika off using just her body, but realised that without her hands, it was virtually impossible. The girl was stronger than she thought...which comes to show that she shouldn't have underestimated her in the first place.

This was.....strange....Mika had been filled with a giddy excitement up till this point, but now was starting to sense a deeper emotion seeping in. Her overwhenling happiness still filled her, but it was tinted with this new feeling. Even as she stared down at her 'prisoner,' she could see the dark red swirls filling the shimmering air around her. Had it been anything else, any other type of emotion, Mika would have rejected it completely, but this was different....this was good too. It made her feel warm and made little tingles run up and down her spine. But most of all, it made her want to do things, things she would never have done otherwise. It felt like her whole being was filled with a newfound bravery, and she welcomed it.
"I....I bet I could do lots of things...."
Beneath her the girl who had been feeding her these emotions stared back up at her, her eyes brightenling with........ something......Mika couldn't tell what it was, but she knew she wanted to find out. Sometime during their little game, Mika's hairpieces had fallen out, and now her hair hung fully below her, framing Setsuka's face. It was like their were curtains that seperated them from the world, one that swayed and moved with the wind that still blew about them. Mika started to feel something else, something she could actually put a label to. Possessiveness. She didn't what to let Setsuka go at all. In fact, she wanted......all.....At the thought, unbidden, a wicked little image came to mind. Mika grinned wickedly.
"If you are my prisoner.....that means you belong to me doesn't it? ...Hmmm? What should I do with you?"
